What Happened to the Manly Cabs Phone Number?
Manly Warringah Cabs shut down permanently on Friday 13 March 2026. The phone number no longer connects to an active service. All bookings, pre-paid or otherwise, were cancelled with immediate effect when administrators at CRS Insolvency closed the co-op. If you’re looking for a replacement service right now, read on.
It’s over. After 73 years of those iconic red sea eagle taxis threading their way from Manly Wharf to Palm Beach, Dee Why to Mona Vale, Manly Warringah Cabs collapsed on Friday 13 March 2026 with no warning and no transition period.
The red sea eagle on the bonnet was a Northern Beaches landmark. For locals who grew up flagging down those red and yellow cabs outside Manly Beach or booking a 4am airport run with a driver they’d known for years, this isn’t just an inconvenience. It’s the end of something that felt permanent. Seventy-three years of community service, gone in a letter from an insolvency administrator.
But you still have a flight to catch. And not every alternative is equal.
This post covers your options honestly, explains what’s actually happening with the driver transition right now, and makes a clear case for why, if you need a guaranteed airport transfer from the Northern Beaches, one provider stands in a different category entirely.
What Actually Happened
Manly Warringah Cabs had been operating since 1953. At its peak the co-op ran 130 taxis. By the time it collapsed, pandemic losses and a decade of ride-share competition had ground the fleet down to around 40 vehicles. Drivers received a blunt letter from CRS Insolvency: operations had ceased with immediate effect. Passengers with pre-booked trips were left stranded. The familiar fleet was pulled from the road overnight.
For a full account of the closure, the Northern Beaches Advocate has covered the story in detail.
The Ingogo Lifeline vs. The Chauffeur Standard
The biggest news to come out of the collapse is that Ingogo, the taxi-tech platform, has moved quickly to absorb a large portion of the displaced Manly Cabs drivers. Lee Furlong, Ingogo’s CEO and a former figure in the Manly Cabs network, described it as a gut-wrenching end but has offered drivers a rapid pathway onto the Ingogo platform. Their emergency hotline is 02 5120 2095 and the app is available on iOS and Android.
For displaced drivers, this is a genuine lifeline. For passengers who want local trips and short-notice bookings, Ingogo is a workable option and the familiar faces will be there.
But here’s the distinction that matters if you’re booking an airport transfer.
Ingogo is a taxi-tech model. It connects you to an available driver. It’s metered or app-quoted. The outcome depends on availability, driver acceptance, traffic conditions and timing. It’s an improvement on nothing, but it is not a guaranteed outcome.
A chauffeur booking with Cars on Demand is a guaranteed outcome. Your driver is confirmed. Your fare is fixed. Your flight is being tracked in real time. If your departure is at 5am and Military Road is clear, your driver is already outside. If your flight home is delayed by two hours, your driver already knows and is adjusting. That is not how a taxi-tech platform works, and the difference becomes very clear the one morning you actually need it to work perfectly.
Why Northern Beaches Locals Save 30 Minutes With Us
Here is something most passengers don’t know, and something no taxi app can replicate.
Cars on Demand vehicles hold HC plates, the professional hire car accreditation that grants legal access to bus lanes on the key corridors between the Northern Beaches and Sydney Airport. While Uber drivers and standard taxis sit in the same Military Road, Spit Bridge, and Warringah Road traffic as every other vehicle, our chauffeurs move through it.
The Spit Bridge alone, with its regular openings for marine traffic, can add 15 to 20 minutes to any journey during morning peak. Military Road is one of Sydney’s most congested arterials. Warringah Road backs up daily. Our HC-plated vehicles legally bypass the worst of it using dedicated bus lanes that rideshare cars are not permitted to use.
On a busy morning that difference is 20 to 30 minutes. When you have a flight to catch, that is not a minor detail.
Taxis are gone. Ubers are stuck. We move.
