Australia’s First 24-Hour Airport Opens in October — Here’s What That Means for Travellers

It’s been 15 years in the making, and as of yesterday, it just became real.

Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport will open its doors to regular passenger flights on Sunday, 25 October — the start of the 2026/27 IATA northern winter scheduling season. Ticket sales for the first Jetstar flights went live on 10 June 2026. Seats are already on sale.

For travellers across Greater Sydney — particularly those in the west, southwest and outer suburbs — this is a genuine shift. No more battling 50–60 kilometres of motorway to get to Kingsford Smith. No more SYD departure anxiety. A new airport, closer to home, is finally open for business.

But there’s one detail about WSI that changes everything for transfer planning, and it doesn’t get nearly enough attention.

Western Sydney International is Australia’s first curfew-free airport. It operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — no restrictions.

That means early morning departures. Late-night arrivals. Red-eye internationals. Cargo flights rolling through at 3am. WSI was designed to run around the clock, and the airlines launching there are already scheduling accordingly.

That’s exactly where Cars on Demand comes in.

The Airlines Launching at WSI: What’s Confirmed

Jetstar — From 25 October 2026

From 25 October, Jetstar will operate up to 21 weekly flights from WSI, including up to 14 flights a week to Melbourne, four weekly flights to the Gold Coast, and three weekly flights to Brisbane. All flights will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft with 188 economy seats.

Jetstar WSI flight schedule (from 26 October):

Qantas — From 28 March 2027

Qantas will follow with its own domestic services from 28 March 2027, operating four flights per week to Brisbane and four per week to Melbourne via QantasLink Embraer E190 aircraft, accommodating up to 95 passengers with business class seating available.

International Carriers — Coming Fast

The domestic launches are just the opening act. International services are already confirmed and tickets are on sale:

  • Air New Zealand will operate three return flights per week between WSI and Auckland from 26 October 2026 — departing Auckland at 6:10am and arriving at WSI at 7:55am, with the return leaving WSI at 9:05am.
  • Singapore Airlines launches daily non-stop flights between WSI and Singapore from 23 November 2026, connecting to over 120 destinations across the Singapore Airlines Group. Introductory return fares start from AUD $863.

WSI CEO Simon Hickey said the launch gives all of Sydney — especially Western Sydney residents — more choice and flexibility, with services expected to grow over the years ahead in line with demand.

Key WSI Flights & 24/7 Transfer Windows at a Glance

Why a 24/7 Airport Transfer is Essential for WSI Operations

Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) operates under a strict night curfew. No commercial flights between 11pm and 6am. This has shaped how Sydney has flown for decades — and it has shaped how transfer services operate too.

WSI has no curfew. None. Unlike Sydney Airport, WSI will operate 24 hours a day, allowing greater flexibility for passenger and freight flights, while offering room for future expansion.

That’s not just a detail — it fundamentally changes what “airport transfer” means at this airport.

A 7:55am Air New Zealand arrival from Auckland means passengers clearing customs and needing a car by approximately 8:30–9:00am. A Singapore Airlines departure that gets you to Changi for a morning connection means a WSI check-in that could easily be 11pm or midnight. Jetstar’s daily 07:15 Melbourne departure arrives at WSI at 08:45 — which means domestic passengers needing a ground transfer by 9:00am or earlier.

Standard rideshare services surge-price during unsociable hours. Standard taxi queues at new airports are notoriously unpredictable in the early months of operation. And critically — while WSI allows flights to land at 3:00am, Sydney’s interim public transport buses stop running shortly after midnight. If you land on a late-night international flight, a pre-booked 24/7 airport transfer isn’t just a luxury — it’s your only guaranteed way out of Badgerys Creek.

Cars on Demand operates 24 hours, 7 days a week. That’s not a marketing line — it’s the operational reality that makes us the right transfer provider for an airport that never sleeps.

Cars on Demand: Reliable 24/7 WSI Airport Transfers

Whether you’re flying Jetstar to Melbourne at 9:25am or Singapore Airlines to Changi at midnight, Cars on Demand provides professional, fixed-price chauffeur transfers to and from Western Sydney International Airport — around the clock, no exceptions.

What every WSI transfer includes:

  • Fixed upfront pricing — quoted before you book, no surge charges, tolls passed through at cost with no markup
  • Real-time flight tracking — your chauffeur monitors your actual arrival or departure time and adjusts automatically
  • Meet and greet inside the terminal — no kerb hunting, no confusion, your driver is waiting at arrivals with your name
  • Direct routing — point to point, not a shared shuttle making six stops
  • 24/7 availability — early morning, late night, public holidays, no exceptions
  • Professional, vetted chauffeurs — licensed, experienced, and trained for long-distance comfort
  • Choice of vehicle — executive sedans, luxury SUVs, people movers for groups and families

WSI sits approximately 65 kilometres from the Sydney CBD via the M7 and M12 motorway corridor — making it a sustained road journey that rewards a professional, fixed-price vehicle over a metered cab or a surge-priced rideshare. Cars on Demand covers the full distance and beyond, serving travellers across Western Sydney, the Hills District, Penrith, Liverpool, Campbelltown, Camden and more — door to terminal, terminal to door.

Who Flies from Western Sydney International?

WSI was built to serve a part of Sydney that has long been underserved by aviation infrastructure. The communities that will benefit most include:

  • Western Sydney suburbs: Parramatta, Liverpool, Blacktown, Penrith, Campbelltown, Fairfield, Auburn
  • The Hills District: Castle Hill, Baulkham Hills, Kellyville, Rouse Hill
  • Greater West: Camden, Narellan, Leppington, Oran Park, Gregory Hills
  • Blue Mountains and Hawkesbury travellers who previously faced the full trip to SYD

For all of these travellers, a private chauffeur transfer from Cars on Demand is frequently faster, more comfortable, and more cost-effective than driving to the airport and paying for long-term parking — particularly for business travellers and groups.
