Three grand old hotels, one misty escarpment and a 100km drive between you and check-in. Here is how to make the journey part of the getaway.
Quick answer: The easiest way to get from Sydney Airport to the Blue Mountains is a pre-booked chauffeur or private car hire straight to your hotel door. The trip is around 100km and usually takes about 90 minutes to 2 hours by road, depending on traffic. The train works for light travellers, but it means changing at Central and finding a ride from the station with your bags. Cars on Demand covers transfers to Ardour Lilianfels Blue Mountains in Katoomba, The Hydro Majestic in Medlow Bath and Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains MGallery in Leura, with flight tracking, meet and greet at the airport and a fixed price confirmed when you book. The Blue Mountains are close enough to Sydney for a weekend, yet far enough that the trip there can decide how the weekend goes. Arrive after a slow train, a station taxi queue or two hours behind the wheel on the M4 and the first evening is gone. Arrive rested at the front door of your hotel and you are on the terrace looking over the Jamison Valley before the sun drops.
This guide looks at three of the region's best-known hotels, what each one suits, and the most comfortable way to reach each of them, whether you are flying into Sydney Airport, coming from the Sydney CBD or travelling interstate.

All three hotels sit in the Upper Blue Mountains, within a short drive of each other, so one chauffeur can easily link a stay at one with dinner or high tea at another.
| Hotel | Village | Address | Setting | Best for | Nearest station |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ardour Lilianfels Blue Mountains | Katoomba | 5-19 Lilianfels Avenue, Katoomba NSW 2780 | Heritage estate above the Jamison Valley, close to Echo Point | Romantic escapes, fine dining, spa weekends | Katoomba |
| The Hydro Majestic | Medlow Bath | 52-88 Great Western Highway, Medlow Bath NSW 2780 | Clifftop heritage hotel overlooking the Megalong Valley | History lovers, high tea, weddings and celebrations | Medlow Bath |

You can drive, take the train or book a private chauffeur. A pre-booked chauffeur is the only option that collects you inside the terminal and takes you straight to your hotel door in one trip, with your luggage handled and the price fixed before you travel. Here is how the options compare for a Blue Mountains hotel stay.
| Option | Door to door? | Luggage | Price certainty | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Train (Airport Line to Central, then the Blue Mountains Line) | No. Change at Central, then a taxi or walk from the station | You carry it through two trains and a station | Fixed fare, plus the airport station access fee | Solo travellers with light bags |
| Hire car or driving yourself | Yes, once you have collected the car | Fine, if the car is big enough | Hire, fuel and tolls add up | Travellers who want a car for the whole stay |
| Rideshare or taxi | Yes, if a driver accepts a 100km trip | Depends on the car that turns up | Metered or app pricing that can change with demand | Short local trips within the mountains |
| Limo or chauffeur service RECOMMENDED | Yes. Meet and greet in arrivals, drop-off at the hotel entrance | Vehicle chosen for your bags, chauffeur loads it | Fixed price confirmed at booking, with 10% off journeys over 90km | Couples, families, groups, wedding parties and corporate guests |
The train is the budget option. From the airport you take the Airport Line to Central, then change to the Blue Mountains Line, which stops at Leura, Katoomba and Medlow Bath. The Central to Katoomba leg alone takes around two hours. It is a scenic ride, but with suitcases, prams or a tired family after a long-haul flight, the change at Central and the final leg from the station to your hotel are where it gets hard. Weekend trackwork regularly changes services on the line, so check the Transport for NSW Blue Mountains travel page and trip planner before you go.
The road route follows the M4 Western Motorway out of Sydney, then the Great Western Highway up the mountains. It is straightforward on a clear weekday, but Friday afternoon traffic heading west and Sunday afternoon traffic heading home can stretch the trip well past two hours. Driving also means someone stays sober through dinner at Darley's or a long lunch in Leura.
Rideshare and taxis are useful for short hops inside the Blue Mountains, but a 100km trip from the airport depends on finding a driver willing to take it, and the return trip down the mountain can be harder again. If you have a flight to catch on the way home, a pre-booked car removes that uncertainty.
A chauffeur transfer turns the trip into the first part of the holiday. Your chauffeur tracks your flight, meets you inside the terminal, loads your bags and drives you straight to the hotel entrance. On the way home, the pickup time is planned around your flight, so you are not watching the clock on the Great Western Highway. See where your chauffeur meets you at each airport.
Ardour Lilianfels Blue Mountains is the romantic choice of the three. The original house was built in 1889 as a summer retreat for Sir Frederick Darley, and today the estate sits on two acres of manicured gardens high above the Jamison Valley, a short walk from Echo Point and the Three Sisters. It is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
Highlights include award-winning Darley's Restaurant in the original summer house, Miss Lilian for Southeast Asian dining, afternoon high tea, the Èliva Blue Mountains wellness experience, a tennis court and bikes for exploring. The hotel also hosts weddings, celebrations and business events.
The Hydro Majestic is the most theatrical of the three. Built between 1901 and 1904 by retailer Mark Foy as a hydropathic retreat, it stretches along the clifftop at Medlow Bath with sweeping views over the Megalong Valley. Its domes, towers and Art Deco details have made it one of the best-known landmarks in the Blue Mountains.
You do not have to stay overnight to enjoy it. The Wintergarden Restaurant serves afternoon high tea and dinner with valley views, the Boiler House offers casual dining through the day and the Pavilion has café classics. The hotel is also a popular venue for weddings, celebrations and corporate retreats.
Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains, part of Accor's MGallery Collection, is the big all-rounder. With 224 rooms and suites on the edge of the Jamison Valley beside Leura Golf Club, it suits families, couples and corporate groups equally well.
Facilities include an indoor heated pool, spa and sauna, an outdoor pool, the Ubika Day Spa, the KidsZone children's facilities, tennis courts and 23 event spaces for conferences and functions. It is a short drive from Leura Mall and its cafés, galleries and boutiques.
Whichever you choose, the transfer is the same: book your pickup address, your hotel address and your flight number, and your chauffeur handles the rest.
Most visitors arrive through Sydney Airport. Our Sydney airport transfers include live flight tracking, meet and greet in arrivals and free courtesy waiting time of 30 minutes for domestic flights and 60 minutes for international flights. If you expect a long wait at baggage or customs, you can add a driver delay when you book. The system behind this is our airport transfer technology, powered by RideMinder.
From late October there is a second option. Western Sydney International Airport opens to passengers on 25 October 2026, and it sits much closer to the Blue Mountains than Mascot. If your flight lands there, book a Western Sydney Airport transfer straight up the mountains.
Travelling from interstate? We can also get you to your departure airport at home, with airport transfers in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, the Gold Coast and Darwin.
A transfer to your hotel is only the start. Many guests keep a chauffeur for a few hours to see the mountains without worrying about parking at the lookouts.

Echo Point, the Three Sisters and Scenic World are all around Katoomba, and Lilianfels sits right on the edge of it. A chauffeur can drop you at one lookout and collect you at the next after a section of the cliff top walk.
Leura Mall's cafés and boutiques are a short drive from Fairmont Resort, with Wentworth Falls a little further east. Ideal for a long lunch where nobody needs to drive.
Medlow Bath is home to the Hydro Majestic, with Blackheath just beyond it. Combine high tea at the Wintergarden with the lookouts further up the range.
