SkyBus is adding two new express services in 2025: the Eastern Express connecting Box Hill Central via Watsonia and Doncaster, and the Sunshine Express providing direct links between Sunshine Station and Melbourne Airport. These services join SkyBus’s existing Melbourne City Express and Peninsula Express routes, with the company carrying almost 3 million passengers annually.
The Eastern Express launches with an introductory fare of $9.99 one-way, while the Sunshine Express will connect Brimbank — one of Melbourne Airport’s largest workforce catchment areas — directly to the airport for the first time.
SkyBus has pledged to transition its entire Melbourne fleet to fully electric vehicles by 2031, with the Sunshine Express launching with an all-electric fleet and the Eastern Express transitioning to electric in 2026. The rollout will include Australia’s first electric double-decker buses, estimated to arrive by mid-2027.
This environmental commitment aligns with Melbourne Airport’s growth projections, as the airport is on track to welcome more than 76 million passengers by 2042 following recent approval of its third runway.
