Quick answer: England play Papua New Guinea at WIN Stadium, Wollongong, on Friday 30 October 2026, kicking off at 8:05pm, straight after England Women v Fetu Samoa at 6:00pm. WIN Stadium is at 46 Harbour Street, about a 15 to 20 minute walk from Wollongong Station on the South Coast Line, with limited special-event parking nearby. Coming from Sydney or Sydney Airport, the drive is around 80 to 90 minutes in normal traffic and longer on a Friday afternoon. For door-to-door transport with your ride home already sorted before kick-off, a pre-booked chauffeur is the most reliable option. Get an instant quote.

The entire Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup is based in Wollongong at WIN Entertainment Centre, and England begin their title defence against Wales that afternoon. Tournament organisers have said double-header ticketholders can also watch the wheelchair action at WIN Entertainment Centre on 30 October, subject to available seating, which makes it possible to see all three England teams in one day.
That is great news for fans and a real consideration for transport. If you plan to catch the wheelchair games as well, you will be arriving in the early afternoon and leaving after 10pm, so a single all-day plan beats piecing together trains and rideshares.
This is England's third and final group match, after two games in Perth, and the result is likely to shape the finals picture for both sides. England have the stronger recent World Cup record against the Kumuls, winning the 2017 quarter-final 36-6 and the 2021 tournament quarter-final, played in 2022, 46-6. Papua New Guinea bring huge passion and a vocal travelling crowd, and they beat a Great Britain side on home soil in 2019.
It is also the first international rugby league match at WIN Stadium since 2019. The wider Rugby League World Cup 2026 runs from 15 October to 15 November across Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, with the men's final at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
You can get to WIN Stadium by train to Wollongong Station and a 15 to 20 minute walk, by the free Gong Shuttle or local buses, by car using nearby car parks with special-event rates, by taxi or rideshare, or by a pre-booked chauffeur who drops you close to the gates and is waiting after full time.
Wollongong is on the South Coast Line, and from Sydney you travel via Central. The trip from Central takes roughly 90 minutes, depending on the service. From Wollongong Station, Wollongong City Council puts the walk to the stadium at about 15 to 20 minutes, via Burelli Street or the Crown Street Mall. Plan your trip with the Transport NSW trip planner on the day and check for trackwork.
The train works well on the way down. The challenge is the way home, when a full stadium empties onto the streets at once and the late trains back to Sydney fill quickly.
The free Gong Shuttle (route 55) loops between Wollongong Station and the University of Wollongong via Burelli Street, with stops close to the stadium. Regular bus routes also stop along Corrimal Street and Burelli Street. Check shuttle times before the match, because services depend on the time and day you travel.
Parking close to WIN Stadium is limited on big event days. Nearby options include the WIN Stadium car park opposite the Sage Hotel and the Stewart Street East car park, where special-event rates may apply, plus Wollongong Central and the Wollongong Station car park. Wollongong City Council recommends arriving early to park and walk, with many car parks and on-street spaces within a 5 to 15 minute walk. See the council's special events parking guide.
There is a taxi rank across the road from WIN Stadium outside the Steelers Club on Burelli Street, and another next to WIN Entertainment Centre on the corner of Crown and Harbour Streets. After the final whistle, expect queues at both, along with heavier traffic on Crown, Burelli and Corrimal Streets as the precinct empties.
Every option below gets you to Wollongong. The real difference shows up after 10pm, when the double-header finishes and most of the crowd heads for the station, the car parks and the taxi ranks at the same time.
| Option | Cost | Getting there | Getting home | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Train (South Coast Line) | Low (Opal fare) | Via Central, then a 15 to 20 minute walk or the Gong Shuttle | Busy platforms and a long ride back to Sydney late at night | Solo fans and couples travelling light |
| Driving and parking | Fuel, tolls and special-event parking rates | Friday afternoon traffic on the M1 and Southern Freeway | Slow car park exits, a late drive home and someone has to stay sober | Illawarra locals who arrive early |
| Rideshare or taxi | Metered or app pricing, which can rise at busy times | Usually straightforward | Queues at the Burelli Street and Crown Street ranks, and long waits for a car back to Sydney | Short local trips within Wollongong |
| Cars on Demand chauffeur or limo serviceRECOMMENDED | Fixed price confirmed at booking | Door to door from home, the office, a hotel or Sydney Airport | Your chauffeur is waiting at an agreed pickup point, then straight home | Groups, families, corporate hospitality and interstate or overseas fans |

| Sydney Airport | 3:45pm to 4:15pm | 5:45pm to 6:15pm |
| Sutherland Shire | 4:15pm to 4:45pm | 6:15pm to 6:45pm |
| Illawarra suburbs and Shellharbour | 5:00pm to 5:30pm | 7:00pm to 7:30pm |
| Return pickup | Around 10:00pm to 10:30pm at an agreed meeting point, based on the 8:05pm kick-off. Your chauffeur adjusts if the match runs long | |

Tip: book your outbound and return legs together. Your chauffeur confirms an agreed pickup point by SMS before full time, so you walk out of the stadium and straight to the car instead of joining the taxi queue on Burelli Street.
