Quick answer: The easiest way to get to the Gold Coast 500 (Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October 2026) is the G:link light rail, which is free for event ticket holders. Driving into Surfers Paradise is hard work because the event precinct is secured from 12:01am Friday 23 October until 11:59pm Sunday 25 October. If you are flying in, travelling as a group or need a guaranteed ride home after the race, a pre-booked chauffeur from Gold Coast Airport or Brisbane Airport, with a fixed price confirmed at booking, is the most dependable door-to-door option. For three days, the beachfront streets of Surfers Paradise and Main Beach become a street circuit. The Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 is the opening round of the Supercars finals, and it is Queensland's largest annual sporting event. Recent years have drawn more than 200,000 fans across the weekend.
That is the appeal. It is also the transport problem. Roads close, parking inside the precinct is restricted, and after the chequered flag tens of thousands of people try to leave the same few streets at once. This guide compares every way to get to the Gold Coast 500, lists the session times that matter, and shows how to plan your arrival, your exit and your flight home.

Session times come from the published track schedule and can move with weather, red flags or earlier delays. Check the official Gold Coast 500 track schedule on the day, and book any return transfer with a buffer rather than a hard pickup at the flag.
There is no single front gate at a street circuit, and no single best way in. Here is how each option performs across race weekend.
| Option | Cost | Getting there | Getting home | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| G:link light rail | Free with an event ticket | Frequent trams to Main Beach and Surfers Paradise North | Crowded platforms and queues straight after each race | Fans staying near a tram stop with light bags |
| Train plus tram | Check Translink fares | Train to Helensvale, then the G:link south | Two connections in post-race crowds | Brisbane day-trippers travelling light |
| Driving and parking | Fuel, plus parking if you can find it | Road closures and a secured precinct around the circuit | Slow exits and someone has to stay sober | Locals parking well outside the precinct |
| Rideshare or taxi | Variable, often higher at peak times | Usually workable in the morning | The option most exposed to delays, closures and cancelled pickups | Short trips when demand is low |
| Limo service or private chauffeurRECOMMENDED | Fixed price confirmed at booking | Door-to-door to an agreed drop-off point near your gate | Pickup window agreed in advance with a driver who knows the closures | Fly-in fans, families, groups and corporate guests |

The G:link tram is the public transport answer for most fans. It runs through Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise, Main Beach, Southport and Helensvale, and the stations closest to the circuit are Main Beach and Surfers Paradise North. Travel on the G:link is free for event ticket holders across the race weekend, so keep your ticket ready to show staff.
The catch comes after the racing. When the grandstands empty, tens of thousands of people head for the same two stations, so expect queues and full trams, plus another connection if your hotel is at the far end of the line. Plan routes with the Translink Journey Planner.
Coming from Brisbane or the north? Catch the train to Helensvale and change to the G:link through to Surfers Paradise. From the southern Gold Coast, join the tram at Burleigh Heads and ride north to Surfers Paradise or Main Beach. Free travel for ticket holders is confirmed for the G:link, so check the Translink fares for any train or bus legs before you go.
Driving into the immediate precinct is a poor plan. The circuit is secured from 12:01am Friday and circuit roads close to traffic early each morning. Heavy congestion and road closures around Main Beach and Surfers Paradise make street parking extremely difficult, and residents inside the precinct need passes through the Supercars Resident Access Program.
If you must drive, park well outside the closure zone near a G:link station and ride the tram in. In past years, the Parkwood Park 'n' Ride has worked well for drivers coming from the north, but check this year's arrangements before you leave.
Staying in a trackside apartment? Confirm in writing whether a car can reach the building between Friday and Sunday, and where guests can be dropped off or collected. "Parking available" on a normal week does not mean parking available on race weekend.
Taxis and rideshare will be on the Coast, and getting dropped off near the precinct in the morning is usually fine. After the racing it is a different story. This is the option most exposed to traffic congestion and road closures around Surfers Paradise and Main Beach, with long waits, higher prices at peak times and drivers who cannot reach the pin you dropped inside a closed block.
Staying in Broadbeach? The Oceanway coastal path is a pleasant walk or scooter ride north to the event precinct, and there are bike racks around the circuit. It is a great option on a fine day, less so if you are carrying grandstand gear or heading straight to the airport.
A pre-booked chauffeur is the option that keeps working when the roads close. You give us your hotel, your gate and your flight, and your driver plans the route around the closures instead of following a generic app pin. The price is fixed when you book, so book early to lock in your rate before event-weekend pricing applies.
Cars on Demand runs Gold Coast airport transfers, event transfers and hourly hire across the Coast. The most useful race-weekend jobs are Gold Coast Airport or Brisbane Airport to your hotel, hotel to an agreed drop-off point near your gate, and a return pickup timed for when the traffic has actually started moving.
Gold Coast Airport (OOL) is the closest airport to the circuit and the natural choice if you are staying in Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise or Main Beach. Brisbane Airport (BNE) offers more interstate and international flights and suits fans combining the race with a few days in Brisbane.
Flying in from interstate? We can also get you to your home airport on the way out. See our Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin airport transfer pages. Coming from the Sunshine Coast? We cover Sunshine Coast transfers too.
A Thursday arrival and a Monday departure is the calmest version of this weekend. A Sunday race, a precinct exit and an evening flight on the same day is possible, but only with a pre-booked car and a generous buffer. Perth and Darwin visitors should treat it as a four-day trip.
Wherever you stay, book your transfer to an exact address and agreed meeting point, not just "Surfers Paradise". Before you pay a deposit on anything trackside, ask three questions: is the building inside the secured precinct, can a car reach the door between Friday and Sunday, and where do guests meet a driver after the race?
Close to the northern end of the circuit and Main Beach station. Brilliant for walking in, harder for cars. Arrange luggage drop-off before the precinct is secured on Friday.
The most hotels, restaurants and nightlife, many of them right against closed roads. Walking distance is a bonus, but a hire car in the basement may not be going anywhere until Sunday night.
The sensible base for many fans. It sits outside the immediate circuit, has the tram, the Oceanway and plenty of restaurants, and it is a straightforward chauffeur run to an agreed drop-off point.
North of the tourist strip, with G:link access back toward Main Beach. A good option if trackside hotels are full.
Further from the action but closer to Gold Coast Airport (or, for Brisbane, more flight options). Pair a southern or Brisbane base with a pre-booked transfer and you avoid two tram changes each day.
October on the Gold Coast is warm and grandstands can be exposed, so bring sunscreen, a hat, water and comfortable shoes. General admission fans will want a chair or a towel. Same-day passouts are allowed, so you can head out to a restaurant and come back in. Charge your phone before you leave, because your ticket, your tram trip and your pickup details all live on it.
Most fans use the G:link light rail, which is free for event ticket holders, to Main Beach or Surfers Paradise North stations. Driving into the precinct is difficult because of road closures. For door-to-door travel from a hotel or airport, a pre-booked chauffeur or private car is the most reliable option.
Yes. The G:link light rail is free for event ticket holders across the race weekend. Check Translink for any train or bus legs before you travel.
Not easily. The event precinct is secured from 12:01am Friday 23 October to 11:59pm Sunday 25 October, and circuit roads close early each morning. Park outside the closure zone near a G:link station and take the tram in.
Race 31 starts at 3:15pm Queensland time (AEST) on Saturday 24 October, which is 4:15pm in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. Race 32 starts at 2:45pm AEST on Sunday 25 October.
It depends on your pickup, drop-off and vehicle. Every Cars on Demand booking has a fixed price confirmed at booking. Use the instant quote to see your exact price in seconds.
Yes. Your chauffeur meets you in the terminal, tracks your flight and drives you directly to your Gold Coast hotel. Journeys over 90km receive 10% off, so confirm the discount in your quote.
It is the option most exposed to delays. After Race 31 and Race 32, expect long waits, higher prices at peak times and pickups that cannot reach closed streets. A pre-booked car with an agreed pickup window is easier to rely on.
Call our 24/7 team on 1300 638 258 and we will move your pickup, or book hourly hire so the car is held for you. Agreeing a pickup window, rather than a fixed time at the flag, gives you the most flexibility.
The Gold Coast 500 is the rare weekend where the sport and the suburb are the same place. That is why fans fly in from all over Australia, and it is also why the trip home is the part people remember for the wrong reasons.
Use the free tram if you are travelling light and staying near a station. Use a pre-booked chauffeur if you have a flight, a family, a group or a hotel the barriers have cut off. Either way, keep the weekend about the racing.
