Quick answer: At opening, you can get to Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) by car via the toll-free M12, by public bus from Penrith, Liverpool, Campbelltown, Leppington or Mount Druitt, by the free WSI Link shuttle from St Marys Station, by taxi or rideshare, or by a pre-booked chauffeur. The Sydney Metro line to the airport is not running yet. If you are travelling with luggage, at night or from outside Western Sydney, a pre-booked WSI airport transfer is the only door-to-door option with a chauffeur who meets you inside the terminal and a fixed price confirmed when you book.
We are 20 days out. Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport welcomes its first passengers on Sunday 25 October 2026, Australia's first major greenfield airport in more than half a century and Sydney's first 24-hour, curfew-free gateway.
Volunteers have spent the last few weeks putting the terminal through its paces in WSI's trial passenger program. According to Nine Travel, trial passengers described check-in as seamless and the terminal as well planned. Other reports from the trials noted a few rough edges still being smoothed out, including limited seating, no travelators and some unclear signage.
The terminal itself looks ready. The bigger question for most travellers is the one this guide answers: what are your WSI transport options, and which one actually suits your trip?

WSI is about 44km west of the Sydney CBD and around 41km west of Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport. WSI says more than 65% of Sydney suburbs are within a 45-minute drive of the airport.
That is great news if you live in Penrith, Liverpool, Campbelltown or the Hills. If you live in the Eastern Suburbs, the North Shore, the Northern Beaches or the Inner West, it is a long run west, and it is worth planning the trip properly rather than assuming WSI works like Mascot. Early in the morning or late at night, after a long flight, that distance matters even more.
Here is how every way of getting to and from Western Sydney Airport compares at opening.

WSI has more than 6,000 parking spaces. Premium and Saver parking in P1 and P2 are a two to three minute walk from the terminal, and Long-stay parking in P4 is served by a free shuttle bus that runs every 15 minutes, according to WSI.
Travel Weekly reports launch parking rates starting from $15 a day, available from 25 October 2026 until the end of April 2027. WSI is also offering three hours of free parking for a limited time, bookable online from 12 October for entry from 26 October. Check WSI's parking page for current rates before you book, as launch pricing and conditions can change.
Driving yourself works well for short trips from nearby suburbs. For longer trips, remember that someone still has to drive home at the end of a long flight, and parking is charged for every day you are away.
From 5 July, new bus services began running every 30 minutes from 5:00am to 10:00pm daily between WSI and Penrith, Leppington, Liverpool, Campbelltown and Mount Druitt, according to WSI.
For a rail connection, Transport for NSW is running WSI Link, a free shuttle bus between St Marys Station and the airport. It runs every 30 minutes from 4:30am to midnight Sunday to Thursday, and 4:30am to 1:00am on Friday and Saturday, from the first passenger flights until Sydney Metro services start. The shuttle trip itself takes about 15 minutes.
It is a good option for budget travellers with light bags who live on the T1 Western Line. From the CBD or the eastern half of Sydney, it means a train, a change at St Marys and a bus, which adds up quickly when you have suitcases or children with you. Flights that land after the last shuttle will need another option.
Not yet. The Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport line will connect the airport to St Marys, but it will not be running when WSI opens and is expected in 2027. Until then, the free WSI Link shuttle is the connection to the train network. Read more in our guide to the Western Sydney Airport Metro delay.
WSI also lists the Super Shuttle WSI, an all-electric bus service connecting the airport with Parramatta CBD, Sydney CBD and Sydney Airport, booked online. It is a shared service with set stops, so you will still need to get from the stop to your door. See How to get to WSI for details.
Dedicated taxi ranks and rideshare pick-up zones will operate outside the terminal from opening. On 25 September, WSI announced a partnership with Uber. Uber will have an exclusive pick-up zone about 100 metres from the terminal, with 10 kerbside pick-up bays, and WSI will share its flight schedule with Uber so drivers know when demand is coming.
Rideshare is convenient for plenty of trips, and it is good to see WSI planning for it from day one. Like any on-demand service, though, it works best when you are travelling light and are happy to book once you land.
All point-to-point transport in NSW, including taxis, rideshare and hire cars, operates under the state's safety rules. The difference is not whether a service is allowed. It is how each one works on the day, especially at a brand new 24-hour airport on the edge of the city. These four questions help you choose.
With on-demand rideshare, you get the nearest available car in the category you select, at the moment you request it. With a pre-booked chauffeur, you choose the vehicle in advance, whether that is an executive sedan, an SUV with room for four suitcases or a people mover for the whole family, and it is confirmed before you fly.
WSI never closes, so flights can land at midnight, 2am or 5am. On-demand services depend on which drivers happen to be nearby when you land. WSI and Uber are sharing flight schedules to help match drivers to demand, which is a sensible step, but nobody yet knows how supply will look at a new airport on the city's edge in the small hours. A pre-booked car does not depend on who is nearby. It is booked, assigned and tracking your flight before you take off.
Rideshare is a kerbside pick-up: you collect your bags and walk to the zone, about 100 metres from the terminal. A chauffeur meet and greet is the other way around. Your chauffeur comes inside, finds you in arrivals, helps with the luggage and walks you a few steps to a car waiting right outside the terminal.
From much of Sydney, WSI is a 40 to 60-plus kilometre motorway run, often at the very start or end of a long travel day. That is a trip worth planning. With a pre-booked chauffeur, your transfer is scheduled in advance with a professional driver, so you can sit back and switch off on the way home.
If you are travelling light, close to the airport and flexible on timing, rideshare may suit you well. If you are carrying luggage, travelling with family or colleagues, flying late or coming from further afield, a pre-booked transfer takes the guesswork out of it.

WSI is on your doorstep. A short private transfer beats paying for days of parking, and for Blue Mountains travellers it saves the drive down the mountain at the end of a long trip.
A straightforward run via the M4 or M7 and the M12. Ideal for business travellers heading to WSI from Parramatta offices and Norwest.
Close by via the M7, M12 and The Northern Road, with bus routes from Liverpool and Campbelltown for light travellers.
This is where a pre-booked chauffeur makes the biggest difference. Public transport means a train to St Marys and a shuttle, so a door-to-door private car is the simplest way to make an early flight.
A long trip across the city in either direction. Book ahead, add your flight number and let your chauffeur handle the motorway.
Cars on Demand covers regional NSW too, so long-distance transfers to Western Sydney Airport are available at a fixed price. Groups can share a people mover or minibus.
Cars on Demand operates right across Australia, so the same service is waiting when you land.
